p‘ MANGOS, JOHN A., AND NONA K. MCSHERRY. Micropuncture study of excretion of water and electrolytes by the pancreas. Am. J. Physiol. 22 l(2) : 496-503. 197 l.‘I’he monovalent ionic composition of the primary secretory (acinar) fluid and the transductal fluxes of monovalent ions and water in the duct system of the rat and rabbit pancreas were investigated by using micropuncture and microanalytical techniques. The concentrations in the acinar fluid were: Rat: [Na] 149.0 rfr 3.8, [K] 6.7 ZfI: 1.1, [Cl] 113.6 & 3.9, and [HCOS] 37.8 sfi 2.1 mEq/liter. Rabbit: [Na] 157.4 rt 3.2, [K] 3. I =t 0.56, [Cl] 42.9 + 2.8, and [HCOS] 111.4 =t 6.2 mEq/liter. The simultaneous measurements of the concentrations of the above ions in the acinar fluid and in the final pancreatic juice showed that a) there were no net transductal fluxes of the cations Na and K in the pancreas of both species, and b) the transductal fluxes of anions were different: in the rat pancreas influx of HC03 and efflux of Cl occurred; in the rabbit pancreas, influx of Cl and efflux of HCO; were observed. These opposing anionic transductal fluxes in the pancreas of two species of rodents are similar to those observed between the human pancreas and the pancreas of dog and cat.

Effects of Methanolic Extract of Oxystelma esculentum on Diuresis and Urinary Electrolytes Excretion in Rats

The diuretic activity of methanol extract of Oxystelma esculentum aerial parts (MEOE) was studied in male Wister albino rats at 5h and 24h interval. The animals were divided into 5 groups: control, urea, furosemide and 200mg/kg and 400mg/kg MEOE. The extract was administered intraperitoneally (i.p) pretreated and all animals were saline MEOE. The urine volume (in mL) and electrolytes excretio...

The effect of AT2 and Mas receptors antagonists on renal hemodynamic and excretory disorders induced by ischemia/reperfusion in male and female rats

Introduction: Renal ischemia-reperfusion (RIR) may disturb renin-angiotensin system components. In this study, the effects of Mas receptor (A779) and AT2 receptor (PD123319) antagonists were examined in RIR rats. Methods: Total 60 male and female Wistar rats were assigned into 10 groups (n=6 in each group), including sham-operated group, RIR groups treated with the vehicle, A779, PD123319, ...

Contribution of endogenous oxytocin to sodium excretion in anaesthetized, surgically operated rats.

In order to determine the possible role of endogenous oxytocin in controlling electrolyte and water excretion in animals whose renal function is being assessed by invasive techniques, rats were anaesthetized and subjected to micropuncture surgery. Clearance measurements were made in the presence and absence of the potent oxytocin receptor antagonist d(CH(2))(5)[Tyr(Me)(2), Thr(4), Orn(8), Tyr(N...

Thermodynamic Study of Water Activity of Single Strong Electrolytes

Today, due to the natural decline of oil exploitation, the use of methods of oil recovery, has made significant progress. However, these methods are accompanied by accumulation and deposition of mineral deposits in oil field installations. In the present study, aqueous solutions, strontium sulfate, barium sulfate, manganese sulfate and nickel sulfate are studied, in terms of EUNIQUAC model and ...

Chronic Reduction in Renal Mass: Micropuncture Studies of Response to Volume Expansion and Furosemide

Chronic nephron loss is compensated by functional adaptations which preserve electrolyte homeostasis. The response to volume expansion and diuretics was tested in dogs. Three phase recollection micropuncture studies were performed to assess the response of the remnant kidney in various stages of renal failure to furosemide administration (10 mg/Kg) and graded volume expansion (3 percent and 10 ...
